How postpartum depression can affect you and your baby
Postpartum depression (PPD) can negatively impact your baby’s development.
PPD can cause you distress and make it more difficult to bond with your newborn. When your relationship with your baby isn’t strong, it can hinder your baby’s physical, mental, and emotional development.
Infant developmental issues linked to PPD include:
- Fussy and more emotionally distant behavior
- Less likelihood to vocalize and make eye contact
- Emotional and behavioral problems as children age
If, at any time, you experience symptoms that you feel might put you or your baby at risk, call 911 and seek immediate emergency care from healthcare professionals.
